"I am grateful and happy that I made the choice to come to IA" ~Maheem Syed
Maheem Syed- 10th grade
Q: What interested you into coming to this school?
A: The atmosphere of having many people being dedicated to academics and the personal excellence of each person and the uplifting community of working towards a goal. It is unlike any other normal high school and the academics are challenging with the IB program and the global view of learning instead of just memorizing encompassing the education.
Q: Do you think you made the right choice and how have you like IA East so far?
A: Yes, she likes it at IA and says it is a lot more than what you would expect it to be. It is interesting and now being a student at a non- traditional high school, she learns more about herself, molds her personality, learns from different perspectives and ideologies, exposed to amazing teaching ways, is more closer to classmates and teaches, and is overall a better person here. She says that you have to try it out to really experience this eye opening journey!
Q: What benefits did you gain from this school?
A: The learning environment is a benefit in which she is able to speak more openly and be more comfortable with her opinions. IA has given her the chance to learn to balance life and academics which is very important for college. As IA is very challenging, the school has late starts and no homework weekends for students! Last but not least, the teaching ways of a world wide perspective of the IB teaches all over the world with different and not normal things. It gives the chance to explore internationally from different countries and creates an open mind to new horizons.
Q: What are some downs to this school?
A: Maheem couldn't think of a down from the top of her mind that really stands out, but she says that it depends on the individual itself. The student needs to learn to balance their schedule between school and free time, and since IA is harder it creates an opportunity to manage effectively. This school gives more challenges, but teaches you how to live comfortably with them as well.
Q: How will this experience help you personally later on?
A: This will definitely help her personally to aim to go to great universities with more challenging tasks and assignments that she is willing to take on. IA has prepared and showed her how to tackle the difficult things given to her by taking control of the problems and progressing through the obstacles. Maheem has already embedded organization and practical skills which is an essential for the future.
Q: What is the truth about the workload and the difficulty of the curriculum?
A: It's not that bad. Many people might think it is harder than it is, but truthfully it is what you make of it and is not that different from any other high school. Yes, there are frequent tests and IA teaches you in a different but beneficial way, but it prepares you very well. Tests and the IB exams are not as horrific, as your teachers prepare you very well. The workload is nothing to freight about, and yes senior and junior year the work load gets harder, but you already are prepared and have the experience to face it.
Q: Would you recommend students considering IA to join?
A: Yes. Of course the decision is up to you and your commitment to education, but fear deteriorates you from coming here. IA proves to be a fruitful experience to take on and see the different points of views, but also discover the style on what you want to pursue.
